Shared ownership is a form of affordable housing which provides access to home ownership to those who may not otherwise be able to purchase on the open market. It is also an asset class which is in high demand from institutional investors who are attracted to its income characteristics and positive social impact.
Having researched the affordable housing market for a number of years, Matter identified that there was shortage of capital available to smaller for-profit providers of affordable housing, and set out to find a partner with which to invest.
Matter backed St Arthur with a package of funding and operational support which has set them on a journey of growth towards a target of acquiring 500 affordable homes per year.
St Arthur is a regulated entity, overseen by the Regulator of Social Housing.
